Mayhem's New Album Liturgy of Death: A Black Metal Odyssey (2026)

Prepare yourselves, metalheads, because Mayhem is back to unleash sonic devastation! The legendary black metal pioneers have just announced their seventh studio album, Liturgy of Death, slated for release on February 6th. And to give us a taste of the darkness to come, they've unleashed the lead single, "Weep for Nothing."

This isn't just any track; it's a seven-minute journey into the heart of darkness. "Weep for Nothing" is a smothering piece that masterfully navigates through a landscape of atmospheric blasting, crushing, slower, doomy sections, and even a touch of progressive elements towards the end. It's a testament to Mayhem's ability to keep things interesting and unpredictable. Vocalist Attila Csihar is in top form, delivering both his signature harsh rasps and soaring, operatic clean vocals, perfectly complementing the song's dynamic arrangement.

The lineup for Liturgy of Death remains consistent with their critically acclaimed 2019 album, Daemon. This means we can expect the familiar faces of Csihar, alongside longtime members Necrobutcher on bass and Hellhammer on drums, with Ghul and Morten (aka Teloch) on guitars. This established lineup promises a cohesive and powerful sound, honed by years of experience.

Mayhem isn't just releasing an album; they're taking their darkness on the road. They're set to embark on the "Death Over Europe" headlining tour, kicking off on February 5th in the Netherlands. Joining them will be the formidable Marduk and Immolation, making this a must-see event for any serious metal fan.

Their new album follows the release of the Daemonic Rites live album in 2023.

Liturgy of Death is available for pre-order now, with physical copies available via Century Media and digital downloads via Bandcamp.
