Police Identify Former Kelantan FC Player as Key Suspect in Deadly Sungai Golok Shooting
In a recent development, police have identified a former Kelantan FC player as the key suspect in the fatal shooting of a Malaysian man in Sungai Golok. The incident occurred on November 2, 2025, and has sparked concern in the region.
According to Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, the Kelantan police chief, the identification was made following a thorough internal investigation by his officers. The suspect, believed to hold dual citizenship, is currently the subject of a manhunt.
Mamat stated, 'Based on our investigation, we managed to identify the suspect as a former foreign player for the Kelantan football team.' He added that roadblocks have been set up, and all border enforcement agencies have been instructed to enhance surveillance.
The victim, aged 33, had a history of criminal activities, including drug-related offenses, dating back to 2020. Mamat revealed, 'The victim was involved in drug abuse and possession since 2020.'
Investigations revealed that the victim entered Thailand using a border pass on the morning of the shooting. When asked about the potential connection to drug-related debts, Mamat stated that the matter is under investigation by Thai authorities.
Earlier reports indicated that Mohd Fuad Fahmie Ghazali, the victim, was shot eight times after an argument around 6:40 p.m. and later died at Sungai Golok Hospital. His pregnant wife claimed that he was hit by 18 bullets fired by two men who fled the scene, adding a layer of complexity to the case.
