Disney & Make-A-Wish: 45 Years of Magic & Transforming Lives! (2025)

Disney's 45-Year Journey with Make-A-Wish: A Legacy of Hope and Innovation

For 45 years, Disney and Make-A-Wish have been on a remarkable journey, granting wishes to over 170,000 children with critical illnesses worldwide. This partnership, celebrated at the global leadership conference, highlights the profound impact on young lives. Josh D'Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, shared his insights on leadership, innovation, and the privilege of supporting this extraordinary organization.

A Legacy of Hope

D'Amaro emphasized the transformative power of wishes, stating, 'Disney and Make-A-Wish have worked together to grant wishes for more than 170,000 children with critical illnesses worldwide. These wishes have the power to transform lives and bring hope to those who need it most.'

The story began in 1981 with a single wish at Disneyland, and this summer marked a significant milestone: the 170,000th Disney wish, granted at Disneyland for its 70th anniversary. Madison, a tech-loving 13-year-old, had her dream come true, learning from Disney Imagineers and visiting Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.

Innovating Wishes, Every Hour

Disney, the world's largest wish granter, grants a wish every hour, but it's their innovative approach that sets them apart. In 2025, they launched:

  • Disney Week of Wishes: A company-wide campaign showcasing over 170 signature wishes, blending creativity and business to create magical experiences.
  • Once Upon A Wish Party: Walt Disney World Resort hosted wish families in a storybook adventure with Disney Princesses and Cast Members.
  • The 170,000th Wish at Disneyland: Madison's wish was celebrated with Disney Imagineers sharing their creative world.
  • A Disney Wish UK: An immersive 2-night, 3-day experience, granting wishes to 200 children annually, bringing Disney magic to those who can't travel.
  • A Frightfully Fun Wish with MrBeast and YouTube: A Halloween celebration at Disneyland for 40 wish kids, raising awareness and granting wishes with top content creators.

The Heart of the Mission

D'Amaro reflected on the privilege of supporting Make-A-Wish, emphasizing the creation of 'core memories' for children with critical illnesses. He stated, 'Each Cast Member shares the pride in creating joyful core memories that change lives.'

The conference celebrated Zeek, a wish kid who became a Disney Cast Member, showcasing the impact of a single wish. ESPN's 'My Wish' series, featuring sports-related Make-A-Wish stories, was also celebrated, with host Chris Connelly and 11-year-old Bear in attendance.

A Privilege and a Promise

Disney views this partnership as a privilege and a responsibility. D'Amaro concluded, 'Our relationship is 45 years old, but there's so much more to come. We're just getting started.'
