Derbyshire's roads are facing yet another closure, and this time it's a stretch of the scenic Via Gellia Road. But it's not your typical roadwork...
The Derbyshire County Council has announced plans to close a section of the A5012 Via Gellia Road for an important mission: tackling the devastating effects of ash dieback. From January 5th to February 28th, a dedicated team will be hard at work removing diseased ash trees along this picturesque route.
Here's where it gets tricky: The closure will impact the area between the Woodside Cafe and Grangemill, causing potential inconvenience for commuters and local businesses. During weekdays, this stretch will be off-limits from 8 AM to 4 PM. Additionally, a short-term closure is expected towards the end of February between Cromford and Bonsall.
Drivers, fear not! Signed diversions will guide you through a scenic detour via Matlock Bath, Matlock, Darley Dale, Bakewell, Taddington, Blackwell, and Newhaven before rejoining the A5012 at Grangemill.
A spokesperson for the council, Charlotte Hill, emphasized the urgency: "We're taking swift action to address the safety risks posed by these ailing ash trees. Recent storms have shown us the potential dangers, and we're committed to protecting the public and their properties."
The council acknowledges the disruption but appeals for public understanding. They assure residents that they will work efficiently to minimize the impact on daily commutes and local trade.
And this is the part where your opinion matters: Do you think the council is taking the right approach by prioritizing public safety over temporary inconveniences? Are these road closures a necessary evil, or could there be a better way to manage the situation? Share your thoughts and keep the conversation going!
